France will soon see a ban on animal-based designations for meat substitutes. And if it is up to the French agro-industry, this will become European legislation. From 1 October 2022, vega products will no longer be allowed to carry meat names such as hamburger, schnitzel or sausage. French farmers want to make this a European item. The Flemish Landsbond Pluimvee is calling on the Belgian federal government to ban meat names for veggie products. Incidentally, in 2021, the European Parliament decided that each member state could decide for itself the rules with the designations of meat and milk substitutes.
October 2022, the supermarket will switch to chicken meat from only free-range chickens with the Beter Leven Keurmerk. This is done in cooperation with the 200 permanent poultry farmers within the Better for Chicken, Nature & Farmer programme.
