The Mobile Slaughter Cooperative has ended the initiative to develop a mobile slaughterhouse for pigs. Profitable operation proved unfeasible as the cost price of slaughtering kept rising due to increasing regulations.
The initiative was awarded the Best Idea From Pig Country as recently as 2019. The mobile slaughterhouse would ensure that the transport of live pigs is stopped. Loading and unloading and transporting from the stall to the slaughterhouse causes a lot of stress to a pig. By allowing slaughter to take place in its own familiar environment, this stress can be avoided. A worthy aspiration that is unfortunately no longer economically feasible due to increasing obligations and costs for small slaughterhouses. While an increasing number of small livestock farms actually need a small slaughterhouse in their immediate vicinity, which are increasingly forced to close down due to government pressure.
