Wakker Dier announces that its Farmers Love Cows campaign has been voted Liegefest of 2022.
With this annual election, the animal welfare organisation aims to tackle misleading statements about animal welfare and keep companies and consumers on their toes.
A total of 21,675 votes were cast during this 14th edition of the election. 60 per cent of these votes went to the 'Farmers love cows' campaign of the Nederlands Agrarisch Jongeren Kontakt, an association of young farmers. Second place went to the goat industry's campaign on optimal goat welfare. It received 20 per cent of the votes.
In an opinion to the European Commission on animal transport, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) calls for providing more space for animals, reducing maximum travel times and lowering the maximum temperature at which animals can be transported. This should include shorter travel distances and temperature conditioning. The European Commission is preparing a revision of the transport regulation. The Commission's proposal is expected in the second half of 2023.
EFSA's opinion was presented to the European Commission in a series of five scientific opinions issued to support the review of animal welfare legislation in the European Union. The scientific opinions cover sheep, goats, horses, cattle, pigs, poultry and rabbits.
Minister Staghouwer (LNV) sends the House of Representatives the answers to questions on a heat plan for Animals. The questions were raised by member Vestering (PvdD).
