Bird flu has been detected at a poultry farm with broilers in Uden, province of North Brabant. To prevent the spread of the virus, the approximately 46,000 animals at the site are being culled by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).
There is 1 other poultry farm in the 1-kilometre zone. The farm is not located in the poultry-dense area. This farm is screened and sampled for bird flu by NVWA and intensively monitored for 14 days by GD. There are 5 poultry farms in the 3-kilometre zone. These farms are being screened and sampled for bird flu by NVWA. There are 82 other poultry farms in the 10-kilometre zone, including a poultry slaughterhouse. Therefore, a prescribed route to this slaughterhouse is established (a 'corridor').
A transport ban applies to all birds and hatching and table eggs from a site with birds. The ban also applies to bird dung and used litter, as well as other animals and animal products from farms with poultry.
In addition, rules apply to hunting in the 10-kilometre zone. Among other things, it is forbidden in this area to hunt ducks or to hunt in areas where this could disturb waterbirds. Where exactly this is, can be seen on the animal disease viewer of the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO).
National measures such as a ban on visiting bird sanctuaries of at-risk birds are in place unless absolutely necessary. Risk birds include domestic fowl (such as chickens), waterfowl and ratites.
Since 5 October 2022, the national caging and fencing obligation is also in force. The caging obligation applies to commercially kept birds, which are brought indoors (except pheasants, ornamental waterfowl and ratites). For non-commercially kept risk birds (gallinaceous birds/chickens, (ornamental) waterfowl and ratites), e.g. in zoos, petting zoos and from owners of birds and chickens, and for commercially kept pheasants, ornamental waterfowl and ratites, there is an obligation to keep them indoors. The NVWA website has more information on the caging and fencing obligation. There is also a ban on exhibiting poultry, waterfowl and ratites.
