On 23 February 2024, ISO added climate change to all management system standards. This makes climate change a mandatory part of 31 system standards such as ISO 22000, 9001 and 14001. This is an outgrowth of the London Declaration signed by ISO committing to contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation through international standards. The amendments took immediate effect upon publication.
4.1 The organisation should identify whether climate change is a relevant key issue (issue).
4.2 And relevant stakeholders may have requirements related to climate change. This makes climate change a mandatory part of the context analysis.
The new requirement in 4.1 and the comment in 4.2 are part of the Harmonised Structure. The aim is to ensure that consideration of climate change is incorporated similarly in each of the existing and developing management system standards based on the HS.
On 4 March 2024, they explained the changes with climate change in a webinar. In it, many questions were answered. Dick Hortensius: "These new amendments ensure that more and more companies are becoming aware of the impact of climate change." The sheets from the webinar are here download.
